Plain Folks
The plain folks advertising technique is used to make the audience feel connected to the people shown in the advertisement by illustrating a person that the audience can easily empathise with, primarily a person of the general public. The person shown is usually a “normal” person so that readers feel that they can also do whatever the person is doing. The woman depicted in this war advertisement is not wearing flashy or expensive clothing, nor is she wearing clothing that shows extreme authority. Rather, the illustrated woman is a typical housewife that has found her war job and feels encouraged to help the nation. Not only does this urge other women to become just like her, but it also sways many other people who are not soldiers and tells them that they can help the nation in ways other than being a part of the army.
